27 alumni, teachers, and students from the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU) explore the definition of care in this exhibition. The word 'care' can have different meanings: to take care of, to care for, and to care about. Care can arise from affection, but it can also be a survival strategy, a political tool, or a way of working. Culture, too, is a form of care; together, we look after our books, films, and artworks. Perhaps art is even the ultimate form of care – long after our death, it is what remains and what future generations (hopefully) will continue to preserve.

Do We Care? explores this idea through three themes – taking care, bodycare, and healthcare – questioning our caring society and showing how emerging creators develop new images and statements. With films, fashion, installations, textiles, performances, and sculpture, these makers hold a mirror up to the present time. Do we care?
